Hailing from Liverpool, Joe Symes & The Loving Kind are a dynamic rock trio known for crafting songs that are both memorable and widely appealing.
Founded by Joe Symes and Colin White, the band’s name came from a casual conversation after a local gig — inspired by R.E.M.’s Get Up and a shared love of heartfelt, honest music.

Bassist Alan Welsh soon completed the lineup, forming a trio described by one spectator as “sounding like nine people on stage, not a mere three.”
Their self-titled debut album, released on their own label Truly Independent Records, showcases their versatility across rock, psychedelic, country, and soundtrack-inspired styles.

Tracks from the album featured on the charity compilation Shoulder to Shoulder alongside artists such as Paul Weller, Ocean Colour Scene, Roger McGuinn, Noel Gallagher, and Robyn Hitchcock.

The album drew praise from Creation Records’ Alan McGee and fans across the Atlantic, including Hollywood actors Matthew Modine and Michael Keaton.
Following this, the energetic single Things Get Better highlighted the band’s evolving heavy-pop sound, gaining BBC Introducing airplay and even playing at Liverpool Football Club’s stadium during half-time.

The band then explored an acoustic direction with the Acoustic Variations EPs, demonstrating their ability to translate electrifying rock into stripped-back arrangements without losing impact.

A limited edition single, You’re No Friends of Mine, followed as a treat for loyal fans.
International airplay in the U.S., Canada, and Australia further solidified their global presence. Yet live performance remains the band’s greatest strength.

They have headlined Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds after-show party, supported acts including The Blockheads, Alt-J, Bloc Party, and Starsailor, and performed at venues and festivals across the U.K., from Manchester to London and beyond.

Their second album, Phase II (2018), recorded at studios including Peter Gabriel’s Solid State Logic, The Motor Museum, Parr Street and Abbey Road, received widespread airplay and critical acclaim.

After a brief live hiatus, a four-track EP in 2022 saw its title track reach number 8 in the UK’s national 365 Radio chart, ahead of Florence and the Machine, Liam Gallagher and Ed Sheeran.
In 2024, the band released their third album, Portmanteau, continuing their forward-thinking approach to modern rock, with singles It’s All Too Late and Please Please gaining strong online traction.

Work is already underway on their fourth studio album.
Regarded as one of Liverpool’s most compelling contemporary acts, Joe Symes & The Loving Kind combine passion, versatility and commanding live performances to create lasting impact.
As Ryan Martin of Chicago’s Jammerzine puts it:
“Take note if you are thinking of starting a band, or wanting to get your music heard. This is how it is done.”
